Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 27: Why Tyrant (FX) Makes Me Mad

This is a simple great example of why it's nearly impossible to suspend my disbelief during the FX TV show, Tyrant.  Yep, it's also a great example of why Tyrant makes me mad.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 26: A Message To Chad Velcoro Of True Detective (HBO)

This message was intended for Chad Velcoro.  He never received it, so hopefully he will now.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 25: (NSFW!!) Re-Writing Tyrant (FX)

***NSFW!! Viewer Discretion Advised: Language***

Here's a scene from the FX TV show, Tyrant, that I think would have played better differently.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 21: A User's Guide To Believable Enjoyment Of Tyrant (FX)

If you're somehow not thinking Tyrant (FX) is doing enough to hold your attention, this helpful video will show you a couple of ways to believably increase your enjoyment of the show.  Since I find it hard to believe anyone actually thinks it's an enjoyable show, I'm taking a random guess that this is how those who enjoy it...enjoy it...

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 20: (NSFW!!) Warm, Soft Opinions On True Detective Season 2 (HBO)

***NSFW!! Viewer Discretion Advised: Language***

Here's a "backdoor Pilot" for a new series I'm considering called "Chris Colley's Warm, Soft Opinions".  This Pilot episode features my warm, soft opinions on True Detective Season 2 (HBO).

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 19: (NSFW!!) Splett Seconds With Veep (HBO)

***NSFW!! Viewer Discretion Advised: Language***

At the beginning of season 3 of HBO's Veep, we were introduced to Richard T. (middle name John) Splett.  Over 13 episodes in the series, he's given a lot of howlers and this episode represents almost all of his character's arc.  He rarely gets more than a minute of screen time in each episode, but Sam Richardson makes the most of what Richard Splett has been given.  Thanks for reading and watching.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 18: (NSFW!!) Reveal And React With Halt And Catch Fire

***NSFW!! Viewer Discretion Is Advised: Language***

Upon hearing the news in the season 2 premiere of Halt and Catch Fire (AMC), I think this would have been a more appropriate reaction from Joe MacMillan.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 17: (NSFW!!) Bates Motel And The Village Idiots Of White Pine Bay

****NSFW!! Viewer Discretion Is Advised:  Language and Violence****

A few months ago in my continuing quest to raise awareness for Bates Motel (A&E), I showed you a little bit of Sheriff Alex Romero, a man not to be messed with.  Well, he got messed with a lot in season 3, and you can probably guess how all that turned out.  Spoilers obviously are ahead.  Thanks for reading and watching.

A flurry of renewals and cancellations came out yesterday.  There are still a bunch of things left for CBS to make decisions about, but the weirdness of this TV season has again reared its ugly head with some of the announcements yesterday.  The worst decisions yesterday were The Mysteries of Laura and CSI: Cyber.  Neither has a chance of seeing a season 3, making the decisions to renew pointless.  Thanks for reading.

Renewals:

The Night Shift (NBC)
Undateable (NBC)
The Mysteries of Laura (NBC)
CSI: Cyber (CBS)
Bones (FOX)

Cancellations:

CSI (CBS, 2 hour movie planned)

Proving that failure is its own success, ABC has come out with a bunch of renewals and cancellations.  The only thing remaining is the fate of Last Man Standing.  As usual, ABC makes prognosticators look foolish.  My misses were Galavant, Agent Carter (a truly bad pick on my part after reviewing DVR ratings a little while ago), and American Crime.  Thanks for reading.

Chris Colley's TV Morsels Episode 10: The Hakeem Lyon Lack Of Self-Awareness Morsel Of The Week

If you've seen the FOX TV show, Empire (Wednesdays at 9pm ET), you're obviously aware of Hakeem Lyon.  Hakeem says and does things that most people don't.  He's not necessarily a bad person, he just has a complete lack of self-awareness regarding how his actions affect others around him.  Any time I see something like this, I'll post it...as long as FOX doesn't block the videos.  Thanks for reading.

TV Ratings Notes For Thursday, February 12, 2015: The Slap (NBC), Allegiance (NBC)

A show with an exceedingly dumb promo and name premiered, and the second episode of Allegiance aired last night.  Get your guillotines out, because neither of these shows are going to make it.  The real question for Allegiance is how many episodes it will get before the big yank.  The over/under is currently set at 5, but I'm not sure it will last that long.  What's even worse is that The Blacklist had a major dip last night.  This whole breaking out the new Thursday nights idea just ain't really happ'nin'.  The numbers are supplied by TV by the Numbers, as I'm a bit too lazy this morning to check the ones I receive.  Thanks for reading.

The Slap (NBC, Thursdays at 8pm ET)

5.50 million Overall Viewers
1.1/4 in the 18-49 Demo

I have zero interest in this show, so I don't really have any comments here.

Allegiance (NBC, Thursdays at 10pm ET)

3.60 million Overall Viewers
0.7/2 in the 18-49 Demo

I guess the good news for the show is that it still beat The Americans in the ratings...lol.

Friday, February 6, 2015

TV Ratings Notes For Thursday, February 5, 2015: Allegiance (NBC), The Blacklist (NBC), Backstrom (FOX)

The Americans (FX, Wednesdays at 10pm ET) "knock off", Allegiance, premiered last night, The Blacklist moved to a new time slot, and Backstrom is soon to be demoted back to traffic duty.  Let's see how they all did.

Allegiance (NBC, Thursdays at 10pm ET)

5.327 million Overall Viewers (first half hour)
1.1/4 in the 18-49 Demo

4.524 million Overall Viewers (second half hour)
1.0/3 in the 18-49 Demo

If one thing is sure, it's that old people didn't like this show.  It lost over 800k viewers outside of the 18-49 demo from the first to second half hour.  NBC, here's a note for you.  When making "clones/knock-offs" of other shows, make sure they actually are successful in the ratings first.  The show's apparent inspiration (the critical darling The Americans) has never had good ratings in its entire run, and this week's episode of that show only scored a 0.3 in the 18-49 demo.  I'll be watching Allegiance later today, and if it deserves an Honest Promo, I'll give it one (meaning I have to want to watch episode 2).

The Blacklist (NBC, Thursdays at 9pm ET)

10.039 million Overall Viewers (first half hour)
2.4/7 in the 18-49 Demo

9.857 million Overall Viewers (second half hour)
2.3/7 in the 18-49 Demo

It's a good thing for NBC that The Blacklist has already been known to hold its own without a lead in.  I would have been very upset if the show's ratings tanked in its new nonsensical time slot.

Backstrom (FOX, Thursdays at 9pm ET)

3.942 million Overall Viewers (first half hour)
1.1/3 in the 18-49 Demo

3.326 million Overall Viewers (second half hour)
0.9/3 in the 18-49 Demo

Backstrom is in an atrocious time slot.  I held out hope that its DVR numbers could help its poor performance in L+SD ratings, but that hope is now gone.  I'm officially calling that it's back to traffic duty for Detective Backstrom, and no one wants to see a show about that.  Thanks for reading.
