TV Ratings Premiere Notes For Sunday, September 21, 2014: Madam Secretary (CBS), The Good Wife (CBS)

Madam Secretary (CBS, Sundays at 8pm ET)

14.28 million Overall Viewers
1.9/5 in the 18-49 Demo

That's a pretty huge amount of overall viewers, but we'll have to wait until next week's episode to see if it continues on this run.  This is way above the necessary numbers needed to return on Sundays, so all Madam Secretary needs to do to return is not crash in the ratings in future episodes.  A 1.4 in the 18-49 will be close to what it needs to survive.  So far, so good.

The Good Wife (CBS, Sundays at 9pm ET)

9.95 million Overall Viewers
1.3/4 in the 18-49 Demo

In news that will come as no shock to anyone ever, The Good Wife returned with its typically crappy Sunday night ratings.  Of course, these crappy ratings have always been enough to get it renewed, so whatever.  The Good Wife is kind of the ratings equivalent of The Mindy Project (FOX, Tuesdays at 8:30pm ET).  I don't know why those shows were allowed to return with such bad ratings, but I'm sure the fans of the shows ain't mad at their respective networks.

The numbers I received for these shows (likely due to time slot errors in the document I received) are quite a bit different than what TV by the Numbers reported (I'm using theirs, as it is likely more accurate based on the start times they reported for the shows).  The half hours for Madam Secretary at the time it actually aired were a 2.0 in the first half hour and a 1.8 in the second half hour.  The Good Wife had a 1.4 in the first half hour, and a 1.2 in the second half hour.

Tonight is when everything really begins.  Thanks for reading.
