TV Ratings Notes For Tuesday, February 19, 2013: Smash (NBC), Body of Proof (ABC), Go On (NBC), The New Normal (NBC)

Smash (NBC, Tuesdays at 10pm ET)

3.29 million Overall Viewers
0.9/2 in the 18-49 Demo

This is just the beginning of a day of bad news for fans of NBC scripted TV shows that are currently airing on Tuesday nights.  This show has already dropped into territory where it will not be renewed.  Now, it honestly becomes about how much NBC is willing to lose with this show.  A few more weeks of numbers like this, and they won't stick with it anymore.  Even the terrible ratings of Deception are handily beating these.  Smash, welcome to the list you do not want to be on.

Body of Proof (ABC, Tuesdays at 10pm ET)

6.66 million Overall Viewers
1.2/3 in the 18-49 Demo

Even though I believe this show has a lot in common with the devil, as evidenced by the amount of overall viewers, I don't think these numbers are as much of a disaster as others will.  Last season, I predicted the show would get canceled, because of its anemic ratings.  However, I did list one caveat, and that was that if the show was given Dancing with the Stars as a prop up, it could be around forever.  That's because the show always has much better ratings when being led in by DWTS.  The type of numbers you see here are nothing I haven't seen before, for the show.  It does terrible when not led in by DWTS, and does well when it is.  ABC is likely banking on that.  It's not like The Bachelor would have any kind of serious crossover audience with this show, while it's very obvious that the DWTS audience crosses over in a major way.  Will this be the third show Mark Valley's been involved with, in a major way, to get canceled in the last two years, or will it recover when DWTS returns?

Go On (NBC, Tuesdays at 9pm ET)

3.32 million Overall Viewers
1.1/3 in the 18-49 Demo

For a little while, this was my favorite new comedy of the season.  Then, they just kept tinkering and tinkering and tinkering, until the Valentine's Day episode just got to the point where it was straight up terrible.  I have no idea why they thought adding Piper Perabo to the cast was a good idea.  It was a terrible idea, and, in my opinion, it's completely ruined the show.  It doesn't much matter anymore, anyway.  With the ratings this show has had over the last several weeks, it would take a miracle ratings rebound to get to return.  That's what happens when you mismanage a good show, to begin with, into oblivion.  That's just such a crying shame.  Go On, sadly, I have to welcome you to the list you do not want to be on.

The New Normal (NBC, Tuesdays at 9:30pm ET)

2.83 million Overall Viewers
1.0/2 in the 18-49 Demo

My friend, David Klotz, is the Music Editor for this show.  He recently released a new album with his group, Fonda, called "Sell Your Memories", and I mixed seven of the ten songs that appear on it (3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10).  It's available to purchase in a bunch of different places, and probably all of the places you like to buy music (end shameless plug).

I don't have much to say about The New Normal, other than that the ratings are terrible, and have been terrible for as long as Go On's have been terrible.  So, I must welcome The New Normal to the list you do not want to be on, as well.  Thanks for reading.
